1.  To the Gilt Groupe for an amazing assortment of fabulous pieces from Seven For All Mankind at some amazing prices.

2.  To Jimmy Fallon for all the funny.

4.  To Oliver Peoples for designing sunglasses that are great quality and look fabulous.

5.  To Justin Bieber for donating the proceeds from his new perfume "Someday" to charity.

6.  To Adam Braun, the founder of Pencils Of Promise, for doing so much to help those who are less fortunate.

This Is The Voice

On NBC
Style Shout Out to NBC's The Voice as it wraps up its' first and very successful season.

Let me start out by saying that in our house we have been fans of American Idol since the show first hit the airwaves. We followed along as it evolved and Ryan Seacrest became the only host. We watched Paula Abdul exit and Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi take their judges seats alongside Randy Jackson and the ever honest Simon Cowell.

We saw Simon leave and even though Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were great additions to the judges table, we missed those words, "If I'm being honest."

And if I'm being honest what I love about American Idol is that it gives people, who might otherwise not be heard, a stage for their voice to be heard. This is what first intrigued me about The Voice.

I was even more intrigued when I found out the show was based on quality of voice alone which made a level playing field and coaching not judging.  Assembling a group of coaches from different genres of music was a fabulous move. With Adam Levine,  Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera the show was guaranteed to relate to a wide audience and it did.

The Coaches Perform on The Voice
Another great move was Alison Haislip in the social media room with tweets being run almost like a news feed making the show feel current and on trend.  And Carson Daly as the host is just so likable...but then again I've been a fan since TRL and still enjoy his late night show.

So from the first turn of the big red chairs...to the coaches really working with their teams...to the coaches having a say in the voting...to the audience having the final say...tonight the first "Voice" will be named.

My daughter has been team Blake since day one and thinks that Dia Frampton is taking this competition hands down and I agree.  However, being a huge Adam Levine and Maroon 5 fan I am a bit torn because I think he did an outstanding job with his team and Javier Colon. And of course Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera also did a great job with Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan and their teams.

Regardless of who wins The Voice tonight I think that all four of the finalists have already won because they have forged relationships with their coaches and have now had the door to the music industry opened to them.

Today's Voice With Hoda & Kathie Lee
Congratulations to all of the contestants on The Voice for sharing their voices with us!

My Style Shout Out Tip:   Tune in to NBC tonight to see who will be the first Voice. Whether or not you enjoyed the show I think it's safe to say that Mark Burnett has another hit on his hands.  I mean even Hoda and Kathie Lee played their own version of The Voice on the fourth hour of the Today Show...red chairs and all.

Tuesday Treasure - Stripes & Style

Style Shout Out to summer and striped tees...

There are so many things that remind me of summer and one of my favorites is a striped top paired with white shorts or white skinny jeans.  Right now Nordstrom has some adorable tops that fit the bill perfectly.

This Vince Twin Stripe Tee is great if you want a longer sleeve.  It has an updated feel but to me still conveys classic.

The Ella Moss Liberty Stripe Tank has a modern twist on the classic stripe and is just a fun top for summer fun, and can go from day to evening.

I love this Splendid Venice Slubbed Stripe Tank.  It has an updated feel and the soft fabric makes this the perfect summer casual tank.

So today find your own striped tee because stripes equals style for summer.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  I think every summer since I was in high school I have made sure that I have a striped tee in my closet.  The first one was a Ralph Lauren navy and white stripe polo...so classic.  Ralph Lauren's quality is so amazing I had that shirt until I was a sophomore in college.  That is the great thing about a quality classic!

Britain's Best

Style Shout Out to Shaun Kearney for creating fabulous every day!

It's been a few years since British designer Shaun Kearney took over the helm of Cynthia Steffe as the company's creative director and with each new collection the line becomes more fabulous and more fun.  Kearney has spent time working with design powerhouses like Donna Karan, Kenneth Cole and Randolph Duke so the Creative Director role at Cynthia Steffe was a natural fit.

If you haven't checked out Cynthia Steffe lately you should check them out today.  Saks on-line has some beautiful pieces and two of my favorites are on sale!  This Kyra Ruffled Silk Top looks adorable with white jeans and is the most beautiful shade of peach.  This top immediately makes me think of Summer.

I also love this Brushed Twill Military Jacket which is based on the designer's own piece. The cut of this jacket is so flattering and the weight is perfect for those cool Fall days.  And while it's difficult to think of shopping for cool weather when it is over 100 degrees outside, this is the perfect time to grab this jacket while it is on sale at Saks and before they sell out.

The Leeza Silk Ruffle dress is fun and flirty and will be perfect for those hot Summer days. This little white dress reminds me of the beach and this dress may make it into my suitcase for our LA trip.  This is the type of dress that you truly can dress up or down.  So it fits perfectly into my "pack versatile pieces when you travel" philosophy.

And if you're looking for a dress that is great for dressing up, not down, look no further than the Carita One-Shoulder Ruffled dress.  This dress is just so fabulous it makes me want to grab some natural color Louboutins and go dancing.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  If you haven't discovered Shaun Kearney for Cynthia Steffe then as Shania Twain would say..."Today Is Your Day"

Sunday Shorts

Style Shout Out to Sunday and keeping it short.

I love Sunday because it is a great day to relax and spend time with family.  And today was no exception.  It was a day filled with a lot of fun and a lot of laughs!

And for dinner we headed to one of our favorite restaurants...Nobu!

Nobu, for me, is absolutely the best place for sushi in Dallas and tonight's dinner did not disappoint.

Thanks Nobu for the fabulous atmosphere and the fabulous food...

My Style Shout Out Tip:  If you're in Dallas check out Nobu at the Crescent...I also love their restaurant in Malibu!

It's A Wrap

Splendid Cardigan
 at Nordstrom
Style Shout Out to Splendid and their amazing wraps...and tops!

My daughter and I ran to the mall today.  We are both looking for some white skinny jeans for our trip to Los Angeles and we are both pretty specific in what we want...clean lines, simple, no bling.  My daughter is the least "bling-y" 8 year old I know and my hubby says, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

I have an adorable pair of Seven For All Mankind straight leg crop jeans, but for LA I want something longer that can go with flats and heels and can go from daytime to evening...you know, because of how I like to pack versatile pieces and travel light.

Splendid Chambray Top
at Nordstrom
In addition to a great pair of J Brand skinny white jeans, that need no alterations,  I found some fabulous Splendid tops at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.  I fell in love with Splendid the first time I tried on one of their wraps and think the name suits their products perfectly.  The choice of fabric and the quality adds up to some amazingly cute and comfortable wardrobe staples.

If you are looking for a lightweight wrap for summer I highly recommend trying on Splendid.  And, if you are looking for some cute and on-trend tops look no further than the adorable chambray stripe top.  I also found a fabulous navy and white stripe tank and that was on sale.  A navy blue and white top is so classic with white skinny jeans.  Grab a Splendid cardigan and it's a wrap.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  For a colorful twist I grabbed a coral-pink Splendid tank and threw it on under the stripe chambray top.  As my daughter always says, "An unexpected pop of color is awesome for summer."  I guess my hubby is right...you know about the apple and the tree.

7 Songs For Summer

Style Shout Out to summer and 7 fabulous summer songs.

Since my parents gave me my first guitar at the age of ten it's been all about the music and I can't imagine a day without it. Whether I'm writing my own or listening to someone else's songs music is always in the air.

So, as we start summer here are a few of my favorite songs...

1.  The Beach Boys...California Girls

2.  Colbie Caillat...Fallin' For You

3.  Bon Jovi...Who Says You Can't Go Home

4.  Pete Yorn...Life On A Chain

5.  Sheryl Crow...Soak Up The Sun

6.  Shania Twain...Today Is Your Day

7.  Katy Perry...California Gurls

When I started looking at my playlist I realized that I have so many favorite summer songs...including a few of my daughter's.  It was difficult to choose just 7 so I may have to add a few more songs to this list soon.

Happy Summer!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Today make your own list of your favorite summer songs, sing along and have some fun!

Style & Service

Style Shout Out to Nordstrom Rack and so many fabulous things at such fabulous prices.

Havaianas
I love Tuesdays...probably because it is the day my daughter has her piano lessons and she enjoys going to them so much.  In retrospect, I guess any day is my favorite day when she is happy.

Yesterday after her lessons we ran to Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom is so smart in their placement of these stores because they make it very easy to shop the Rack.  Ours is conveniently located in the same shopping plaza where I food shop so there is no mall traffic to fight, and that is a big plus.

Tuesday there were some amazing things...I kid you not in the women's shoe department I actually saw Jimmy Choo and Salvatore Ferragamo alongside Vera Wang and Cole Haan. They had the most on trend denim shorts by Joe's Jeans and Paige Denim, cute Splendid tops and a fabulous selection of Seven For All Mankind jeans.

Mia
I picked up some of my favorite everyday flip flops by Havaianas for $9 less than retail price and a cute pair of espadrilles by Mia, again at a very good price.

And in addition to fab prices and stylish pieces, one of the things I love about shopping at Nordstrom is their commitment to customer service.  The problem with a lot of discount-type stores is that you get discount-type service, but that is not the case at Nordstrom Rack.  I have always found the team at our Rack to be helpful and friendly without being overbearing which is the one thing that annoys me more than lack of service.

So today I am happily wearing my Havaianas as I run out with my daughter to run some errands.  Happy Wednesday!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Nordstrom Rack is a great place to find fab pieces at fab prices so the next time you go shopping check out the Rack and you won't be disappointed.

Tuesday Treasure - Summer Sale

Style Shout Out to Neiman Marcus and a great sale to start the summer.

For InCircle Members the preview sale begins today and the sale is open to everyone tomorrow.  There are so many fabulous pieces at an additional 25% off that this is the perfect time to do a little summer shopping.

Here are a few things I found at NeimanMarcus.com that I love for summer...

1.  By Diane von Furstenberg the Aalisha Sleeveless Embellished Dress is so chic.  The simplicity of this dress which can be dressed up or down and paired with flats, sandals or nude pumps is perfect for those warm summer days and nights.

2.  The Burberry Foil Check tee shirt is fabulous with khakis or jeans and makes a great statement.  I am a big fan of all things Burberry...so classic...so iconic.

3.  Neiman Marcus has some amazing Manolo Blahnik shoes on sale right now and these are simply adorable.

4.  I love Gucci and this tote for summer is fabulous...there is plenty of room for toting extra sunglasses, sunscreen, and a great scarf.  Neimans did have a few fab Gucci scarves on sale too!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Check out the Neiman Marcus sale and have some fun shopping. They have some amazing pieces at some very amazing prices!

Big Music, Big Man

StonePonyOnLine.com
Style Shout Out to The Big Man who gave the E Street Band their Big Sound!

I loved growing up in New York City and New Jersey.  We had amazing museums, the theater, the shore (and not the one from TV), the NY Yankees and the NY Giants, fabulous food and great music!  Buying that first Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band record was like a right of passage for every teenager that I knew. And when it comes to music I still gravitate to Jersey with Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Pete Yorn still among my favorites.

Sure I have "Greetings From Asbury Park" on my IPhone playlist but every once in a while I reach for the album and carefully place it on our turntable. There is just something about listening to anything by Springsteen on vinyl that brings me right back to when kids in New Jersey were trying to get "Born To Run" recognized as the state song. And when you talk about Springsteen you have to talk about the band.

The E Street Band has a sound all their own mostly due to the amazing musical ability of The Big Man on the saxophone, Clarence Clemons.  His sound was all his own...so distinctive...and more amazing in a live performance than it was on a recording.

I feel so fortunate to have seen him in concert with Bruce Springsteen on several occasions, and one time without the Boss... Yes I said it, The Big Man without The Boss.  In college my friend heard that Bruce Springsteen was going to make a surprise appearance at The Stone Pony. So we headed to the iconic club where it wasn't Springsteen who was performing that night, it was Clemons who gave an amazing show.  There are not enough words to describe his charisma and talent.

So today a big style shout out to the music and the amazing memories...Clarence Clemons will be missed but his music will live on!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  If you haven't listened to "Greetings From Asbury Park" this is one record that should be in everyone's playlist!  Happy listening.

Sunday Shorts - Happy Father's Day

Hallmark
Style Shout Out to Sunday and keeping it kind of short!

Happy Father's Day to my Dad and my hubby...two of the most wonderful men I know who always put their families first and know the true meaning of being a great Dad!

Thank you to my Dad who taught me the importance of family values...who, along with my Mom, asked us every night at the dinner table about our day...who was always there for me when I was young and is still there for me today...who rushed home from the city on Mondays during High School JV football games just to see me cheerleading...

Seriously, someone once asked him at a game as he was watching from the sidelines still dressed in his business suit, "Which one is yours?" while pointing to the guys on the field.  My Mom smiled as my Dad replied proudly, "She's the captain of the cheerleading squad."  Needless to say mine was the only "cheerleader" Dad there every Monday that season and I appreciate it to this day.  It's those little things that stick with you.

And to my hubby who in addition to being a fabulous husband is the most wonderful Dad to our daughter.  It's not often you hear about a Dad who misses the first day of a board meeting because his daughter is performing at House of Blues in a music school showcase...or rearranges his business schedule to be at every parent-teacher conference. So my daughter at the young age of 8 already realizes she has a pretty special Dad and today as they are in the recording studio and I am listening to some fabulous music being created and seeing some brilliant smiles on two very happy faces I realize how fortunate I am.

Studies have shown that if a daughter has a strong father figure in her life and a Dad who is involved then she will grow up to be a stronger and confident woman.  I believe this to be true and believe that the secret to raising confident children is simple common sense...if you take an interest in your children and what they are doing they will respect you and out of that respect for you they will respect themselves.  Children that have self-respect have more self-confidence and self-esteem and make better choices as they navigate the waters of growing up.

So thank you to all the Dad's who take the time with their children and especially to my Dad and my hubby!  I hope you have a great day.

My Style Shout Out Tip:   My hubby always says we are born with two ears and one mouth...listen before you speak especially to your kids.  My parents always listened and today I can honestly say that even at my age I still feel like I'm being heard.  And I think that's what kids at any age want...to feel like they have a voice and that when they have something to say, the most important people in their lives are listening.

LnA...Serious Tee Shirts & A Serious Sale

Style Shout Out to LnA Clothing and their fabulous sample sale.

LnA Tee at ShopBop
If you are not familiar with LnA then this is a great time to get to know them.  The company is built on one premise... to create perfect basics with an edge. And I can safely say that they are accomplishing their mission.

LnA was founded in California in 2007 by Lauren Alexander and April Leight.  Their idea was simple...create a men's tee shirt for women.  Using the best cotton, LnA created a line of tee shirts that were made well and fit well.  When they launched in stores like BarneysNY and Henri Bendel they almost immediately attracted a celebrity following, and were a big hit.

The line has expanded and now includes some of the most fabulous little dresses and their signature zipper leggings. LnA is currently having a sample sale and if you're not in Los Angeles don't worry because the sale is also being offered on-line.

Normally I would write more about this fabulous brand but I have some on-line shopping to do!  And if you're looking for some perfect basics with an edge check out LnA and you won't be disappointed.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  I am a big fan of LnA tee shirts and love to pair them with a fabulous pair of skinny jeans and my favorite ballet flats...such a classic look!

7 Things For Dad On His Day

Style Shout Out to Thursday and 7 Things...

With Father's Day literally right around the corner here are 7 ideas for Dad on his day!

1.  Jimmy Fallon's book "Thank You Notes" is a great summer-time read for those who love to laugh.  Warning: Set aside some time for wrapping this gift because you'll probably end up reading it before you wrap it...it's just that funny!

2.  Molton Brown makes amazing products for women but hands down for men their best is Re-Charge Black Pepper Body Wash and Shave Oil.  How do I know this?  It is my hubby's favorite.

3.  You really can't go wrong with technology and I am a big fan of all things Apple. The IPad makes a fabulous gift because it is so versatile and can be used for work and play.  For those Dads who run and walk think about an IPod...my Dad walks every day and never leaves the house without it.

4.  Concert Tickets!  I know it's not usually the first thing you think of when you think of gift giving but my hubby and I love presents that offer an experience.  For Valentine's Day this year my hubby gave me Keith Urban tickets and I thought it was a unique and fun gift! We're going to the show in August and I can't wait!

Burberry at Nordstrom
5.  A Burberry tie...for men it's the equivalent of the Burberry scarf for women.  I just think they are the ultimate classic.  And this is one of those ties that goes as well with jeans as it does with a suit.  FYI: Nordstrom actually has some on sale.

6.  Music...whether it's an ITunes gift card or a CD I am a big believer in giving the gift of music.  If you have one in your area find a record store and give the gift of vinyl! We like to take out our records every now and then because there is just something so raw about hearing that little skip across the vinyl that only happens on a turn table.
Molton Brown
at Neiman Marcus

7.  Anything home-made...seriously, my daughter makes her own cards because she says, "A card from the store doesn't know what I want to say!"  And of course we make pancakes and eggs for my hubby on Father's Day morning and then cook for the entire family, my Dad included, later in the day.  Food made with love is the ultimate gift!

Happy Father's Day and Happy Shopping!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  A gift doesn't have to be big or expensive to be the best gift...it just has to come from the heart!  One year for Mother's Day I wrote a song for my Mom, recorded it and framed the lyrics! Not expensive and certainly heartfelt!

Fun & Fabulous

Style Shout Out to J Brand Jeans for their fun and fabulous colors for summer!

J Brand at Saks
Summer just wouldn't be summer for me without a trip to Los Angeles to visit family.  There are so many fun things to do and I especially love spending time at the beach with my hubby and daughter.  Going to The Farmers Market and The Grove are also at the top of our list of fun family activities.

One of the things I miss about California is the weather and how even in the summer you can throw on your favorite pair of jeans at night when you head out for dinner.  And jeans are not out of the question during the day unlike Dallas where it will be about 100 degrees in the shade today and the last thing you feel like reaching for are your favorite jeans.

Even though we're not heading west for a few weeks I have already started planning my wardrobe.  I mainly start pulling pieces together early because I like to edit and mix and match until I have the most versatile pieces.  Seriously, I pack light and like to get everything in one carry-on bag and my Louis Vuitton Neverfull which as the name implies feels like it is never full.

After I have my pieces chosen,  I figure out if I there is anything new I want to add to the mix.  This morning as I was reading through my emails I came across some fabulous J Brand Jeans at Saks in some fun colors.  These colorful jeans paired with a white LNA tee will be perfect for LA.

J Brand at Saks
While I am loyal to my Sevens and Hudsons I do like J Brand for their simplicity and fit.  So today I am off to Saks with my daughter to pick up some colorful jeans and to do a bit of Father's Day shopping as well...don't forget it's this Sunday!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Pack light this summer.  You will definitely save time when you arrive at your destination because you won't be waiting for your luggage.  And while you're packing leave room in that carry-on for a fabulous pair of colorful J Brand Jeans!

Tuesday Treasure - You Either Have "IT" Or You Don't

Style Shout Out to The Glee Project and our hometown favorite Cameron Mitchell.

The much anticipated Glee Project aired Sunday night on Oxygen.  My hubby and I watched the two episodes that we had recorded on the DVR to make sure they were okay for our 8 year old to view.  We feel it's important to make sure that the shows she watches are age appropriate which is why she has yet to watch Glee...a fabulous show and a show she can watch when she is a bit older or if her favorite contender wins the competition.

You see our daughter has one very important reason for wanting to watch The Glee Project and that one reason is named Cameron Mitchell.  When Robert Ulrich used the word "IT" to describe the magic that is Cameron he was, as my British hubby would say, "Spot on!"  But I didn't have to hear Robert say it because I already knew it.  My daughter takes keyboard lessons and this is how we first met Cameron.

CAMERON MITCHELL
OXYGEN MEDIA/ANDREW ECCLES
Cameron has an unassuming star quality. When you talk to him you just know that this guy is going somewhere and I am excited to see where the road leads him and glad that we can watch the journey.  And when you hear one of his songs you know he can write as well as he sings.  Being a songwriter I know a good hook when I hear one and I can't get "Love Can Wait" out of my head.

So today a big style shout out to Cameron Mitchell, a very talented singer and songwriter with a unique style and voice all his own!

Congrats on being one of 12 out of the over 40,000 that auditioned for The Glee Project. My Uncle, who spent much of his career in the entertainment industry at ICM, used to say, "You either have IT or you don't!"  I think I may have inherited his ability to spot "IT" and right now you can't get more "IT" than Cameron!  Tune in to The Glee Project and see for yourself!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken."  This quote by Oscar Wilde is one of my favorites and something I remind my daughter about every day. Cameron Mitchell is living proof that if you stay true to yourself you will find the right path that will lead to success and happiness.

Not Kidding Around

Style Shout Out to the Dallas Mavericks for bringing home the NBA title and to Dirk Nowitzki for his well-deserved MVP award.

"Champs" Courtesy of WFAA News & The Dallas Morning News
Last night the Dallas Mavericks beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Championship to bring home the first NBA title in the team's history. This was an especially sweet victory considering the Heat beat the Mavs in 2006.  But this was the year of the Maverick and this team was not kidding around.  Every time they hit the court in the play-offs they came out with determination and team spirit.

Growing up in the North East my family watched a lot of NY Yankees baseball and NY Giants football.   I started following hockey and basketball more closely when my hubby and I moved to Dallas in 1996.  We've seen the Dallas Stars bring home the Stanley Cup and it is so nice to see the Mavs have their turn in the spotlight.  What makes this team special is that they are a true team made up of seasoned veterans like Jason Kidd and Jason Terry with a veteran star-player in Dirk Nowitzki who is as humble and unassuming as he is tall. Nowitzki is living proof that if you are a team player and you work hard you can make good things happen.

Dallas Mavericks - Champions
How can you not root for a team who works so hard and puts ego aside for the sake of the team?  How can you not root for a team whose owner is so outspoken because he is so excited to be the owner? How can you not root for a team whose coach knows the meaning of teamwork and who now is one of only 11 people to have won the championship as both a player and a coach?

I am so happy for the Mavericks and especially for Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry who were part of the 2006 team and for Jason Kidd who is the oldest player to ever win the championship.  I have been a fan of Jason Kidd since his days with the NJ Nets and think he has a fabulous work ethic which makes him a great leader and role model for younger players.  For me this may be one of the greatest NBA championship teams because they are a true team!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Like I always tell my daughter if you believe in yourself, and if you work hard you can make anything happen!  Thanks Mavs for showing my little one that I was not kidding around when I said it!

Sunday Shorts - Beat The Heat

Style Shout Out to Sunday and keeping it short.

Well, the first week of Summer comes to a close and our temperatures are already reaching 100!  The heat is in the news but for us besides the "hot" heat the headlines are also talking about the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat in their battle for the NBA Championship.

So today as game-time approaches and the Dallas area is a sea of Royal Blue we give a big Style Shout Out to the Dallas Mavericks as they set out to...Beat The Heat!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  In addition to wearing your team colors today don't forgot to beat the heat by wearing sunscreen and sunglasses and drinking plenty of water.

Look At Laura

Pedro Garcia at Neiman Marcus
Style Shout Out to Laura at Neiman Marcus as you begin your style journey...

Today my daughter and I headed to the mall to meet my sister and her kiddos for lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.  My little one loves CPK - maybe it's the pizza, maybe it's because the name has the word "California" in it...either way we always have a good time there and for me that is the sign of a good lunch.

After a few slices of pizza and a few laughs we headed to Neiman Marcus where they had some fabulous shoes on sale.  I kid you not, the Vera Wang ballet flats I recently picked up were marked down so this is a great time to pick up a pair if you're in the market for some flats. There were some beautiful Manolos but unfortunately there were none in my size. I did find a great pair of Pedro Garcia espadrilles that were super cute and super comfy which are two prerequisites for shoes in the heat of the Dallas summer.

As we were browsing the shoe department we were greeted by Laura who is one of our favorite sales associates. She told us that today was her last day as she was being promoted to a position at the corporate office.  I have to say that I am truly happy for her because she is an amazing person.  And, I am a little sad that she is leaving the store because she is an amazing person.  You see, Laura is one of those people who wears her smile as her best accessory.  She is always ready to help you find what you are looking for and she is always honest with you when what you are looking for may not be what you really need.  My 8 year old thinks that Laura is a real style icon and thinks that the Neiman Marcus corporate office is really lucky to have her on their team, and I have to agree.

Vera Wang at Neiman Marcus
So today I say thank you Laura for all of your smiles and great customer service over the past few years...and for helping my hubby find fabulous gifts!   Thanks for always taking a minute to say hi to my daughter even when you were busy, and for being so helpful.  Neiman Marcus is really lucky and we wish you the best in your new position!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  What goes around comes around...if you work hard and are a good person, good things will always come back to you!  Need proof...just look at Laura!

7 Things For Summer

My Daughter's Daisy Rock

Style Shout Out to 7 Things for Summer...

Well, it's hard to believe that another school year is completed...yearbooks are signed, lockers are cleaned out and the Summer begins.

So today here are my 7 Things for Summer:

1.  Sunscreen...I never the leave the house without it!  My favorite sunscreen for the beach or pool is Neutrogena cooling mist spray.  My every day go-to sunscreen is Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 and for my face I love Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 30.  All of these products are light and non-greasy.

2.  Sunglasses...I absolutely love Ray-Ban aviators and seriously you can't go wrong with anything by Oliver Peoples and Tom Ford.  TOMS just introduced their new line of sunnies that will protect your eyes while giving sight to someone in need!

Ray-Ban Aviators at Nordstrom
3.  Jo Malone Fragrances...English Pear & Freesia and Grapefruit are two of my warm weather favorites.
For me a Summer fragrance has to be light and both of these are just that.

4.  Flip Flops...Hands down the best leather flip flops that can go anywhere are my TKEES.  And for a basic every day "beachy" vibe  Havaianas are fabulous.

5.  The Beach Boys...it may be a bit cliche but every time I hear a Beach Boys classic I can't help but think of Summer.  They're touring now and John Stamos is joining them for a few shows...seriously, this guy can play drums! And, a Summer music play list just wouldn't be complete without Katy Perry and "California Gurls"!

Laura Mercier at Neiman Marcus
6.  Simple Summer make-up...Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, Nars the Multiple make-up stick and Laura Mercier 'HydraTint' Lip Balm SPF 15...It really is make-up made easy and for me that is what Summer is all about.

7.  My guitar.  I play all year long but it seems that in the Summer it is always within reach.  And this Summer I am so looking forward to playing a few duets with my daughter, now that she has her hot pink Daisy Rock, and writing a few new songs!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Make your own Summer list of 7 Things today!  And remember don't leave the house without sunscreen and sunglasses.  A hat always comes in handy especially if you're going to be out by the pool or at the beach...while straw fedoras and "beachy" cowboy hats are fun and fabulous I still love my pink NY Yankees cap and yes, I even wear it in Texas!

Sunnies For Sight

Style Shout Out to TOMS for giving back in a big way and making a difference every day!

TOMS at Nordstrom
Most of you are probably familiar with TOMS.  The company started with a shoe and a dream.  Their vision was to be able to put shoes on the feet of children in need.  The company business model is built on one very simple, yet very powerful premise...for every pair of shoes that are purchased, one pair is given to a child in need.  It is so refreshing to see a company that not only gets involved in the charitable process but has made giving back the foundation on which their entire company is built.

The one-for-one legacy and the vision now continues with the introduction of TOMS new line of classic-inspired sunglasses that are made in Italy.  For every pair of sunglasses purchased TOMS will give sight to a person in need in the form of prescription eyeglasses, sight-saving surgery, or medical treatment.  How can you not admire a company that is working so hard to help others?

TOMS at Nordstrom
So my daughter and I are planning to visit our local Nordstrom this week  to check out these new sunglasses. And I am hoping to find a pair that will look fabulous because every time I go to put them on and see the little white stripe on the arm of these shades I will be reminded that my purchase helped to give someone the gift of sight.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  If you are looking for a new pair of sunglasses for Summer check out TOMS and do some good while looking good!

Tuesday Treasure - Daisy Rock

Daisy Rock Guitars
Style Shout Out to those about to rock...and Daisy Rock!

Our daughter's music school just started hosting a "Gig Of The Month" at a local coffee shop.  It's a great venue for the kids because it is a small place with a very friendly atmosphere.  This is such a phenomenal way for these music students to gain confidence performing.

It is a well known fact that public speaking is the biggest fear for most people so it is my belief that if your child expresses an interest in music, even at a young age like my daughter did, it is good to get them involved.  Music is such a fabulous form of self expression and it also is a great confidence builder.

My daughter was asked to play at the "Gig" last Thursday and she was really excited.  She played keyboard and sang "Undo It" by Carrie Underwood and "Simple Song" by Miley Cyrus.  This was her first performance at a coffee shop and she really had a lot of fun.  Her first question when she finished her songs was, "When can I do this again?"

My hubby and I have been so impressed with the interest she has taken in music over the past year and decided to buy her this electric guitar she's had her eye on. She's been learning guitar with us and took a few formal lessons last Fall and we agreed that Summer would be a great time to build on what she's been learning.

So Saturday afternoon we headed to the adult equivalent of a "kid's candy store"...Guitar Center...where our 8 year old headed straight to the section displaying the Daisy Rock's and promptly pointed to the hot pink one and said,  "That's it's!  That's the one!"  I was amazed as she sat down and played "Undo It" and after playing a few different guitars we walked out with a very happy little musician and her shiny new hot pink and sparkly Daisy Rock.

When we got home she immediately took it out of the case, plugged it in, and began playing.  I know that she will continue to get better with time and it makes me smile every time I see her pick up a guitar or sit down at a piano or keyboard.

Recently at our parent-teacher conference her teacher remarked that our daughter is always the first one to volunteer to read and has no problem speaking in front of the class.  She said there are so many children that dread having to read or speak in front of a group and I told her that I believe when children are involved with music it boosts their confidence and just makes them more well-rounded.

I am so happy that my daughter is enjoying her new Daisy Rock, and as I am writing she is figuring out how to play Taylor Swift's "Teardrops On My Guitar" and I have to admit I have a tear in my eye and a smile on my face.

My Style Shout Out Tip:   Give your children the gift of music.  Daisy Rock Guitars are fabulous for girls as they are designed to be lighter than your average Fender or Gibson. The necks on these guitars are a bit thinner which makes it easy for my daughter to play the chords.  I am so impressed with the quality and sound of Daisy Rock that I may have to pick one up for myself.  There is this raspberry acoustic electric I have my eye on...although there was a beautiful Martin that caught my eye too.  Decisions, decisions!

Perfect Scents

Jo Malone at Saks
Style Shout Out to Jo Malone for making perfect scents.

Jo Malone began making her signature scents in 1990 when she mixed ginger and nutmeg in her kitchen and hand poured the body oil into bottles to give to her facial clients as a "thank you" for their business. It's been said the Jo Malone company was born when one of her clients ordered one hundred bottles of the body oil to give as gifts at her dinner party.  As a result 86 of those dinner party guests called Malone to order her uniquely blended body oil.

I discovered Jo Malone when her fragrances first hit Neiman Marcus stores.  I immediately fell in love with the Grapefruit which is so crisp and clean.  The Orange Blossom is fruity and smells like SpringTime.  But my new favorite is the English Pear and Freesia.  It is so light and every time I spritz it on I can't help but smile.

Something I find fun about this line is the fact that the fragrances have been created to be combined so you can create your personal scent.  The associates in stores can offer suggestions or you can experiment.  And after all isn't that what style is all about?  Taking inspiration and finding what works for you.

Jo Malone at Neiman Marcus
Jo Malone's line also offers products like scented candles, scents for the home, body oils and skin care products.  I have been a fan for years and am sure that once you experience a spritz it will quickly make perfect sense for you too.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  The next time you visit Neiman Marcus, Saks, or Nordstrom have some fun with fragrance and check out Jo Malone.  It makes perfect scents!

Sunday Shorts - Make A Wish

Style Shout Out to Sunday and keeping it short...well, sort of short.

Yesterday I spent a great day with my family swimming, taking a trip to Guitar Center, and going to dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy.

I love Maggiano's and every time I walk through the doors I smile as it reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of Modern Family.

Maggiano's is currently fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  When my daughter asked why there were so many paper stars on the mirrors of the restaurant one of the Maggiano's team members told us that every time someone orders a dish on the "specials" list $1.00 is donated to Make-A-Wish.  And, when a customer makes a donation they get to write their name on a star!  He went on to say that our local restaurant had raised approximately $7000 last month which was enough to grant a child's wish for a cruise with their family.

My 8 year old promptly reached into her tiny handbag and took out a $5 bill that her Grandfather had given her, and she said, "This is all I have in my bag and I'd like to donate it to the kids."  As she was writing her name on the star with her favorite pink pen I got tears in my eyes.   When I asked her what prompted her to make a donation she said, "I know I'm really lucky and I know there are kids that need this $5.00 more than I do."  My hubby and I both made a donation and as we watched our three stars being put up on the wall I gave my little one a hug and told her I was so proud of her.   She said, "Today's a great day!"  And it really was.

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Visit your local Maggiano's or visit them on Facebook to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  And remember, it's never too early to start talking to your children about helping others and the importance of giving back.

Feeling Lucky

Style Shout Out to Lucky Magazine for all of their fabulous fashion tips and information.

This morning my hubby and I were discussing our vacation plans. We love going to Los Angeles in the summer because besides the weather being so much better than the weather here, we also have family there which always makes it a fun time.  We love going to the beach, watching the sunset from Gladstone's or Shutters, and shopping at the Grove and on Robertson.  And, no trip to LA is complete without spending some time at the Brentwood Country Mart and the Farmer's Market.

It was so ironic that while we were debating on where to stay The Today Show introduced a segment with Lori Bergamotto who is a Contributing Style Editor at Lucky Magazine.

Lori's segment was about the best way to pack your luggage.  Since I like to pack light, so as not to have to check my luggage, I always enjoy seeing if there is something new that I can incorporate into my packing routine.

In addition to the things I already do such as rolling jeans and tee shirts instead of folding them, and wearing bulkier items like jackets or sweaters instead of packing them,  I picked up a good tip about packing jewelry inside a leather pouch which can double as a clutch. And, instead of winding a belt it is better to run it around the perimeter of the interior of the bag.  Your belt won't take up as much space and the leather won't get creased.  And speaking of creases, when packing delicate fabrics like silk blouses, after you fold the shirt wrap it in tissue paper to avoid wrinkling the garment.
Ann Curry & Lori Bergamotto on Today

Packing light is really about choosing fabrics that travel well, which is why I avoid linen as it wrinkles so easily, and packing versatile pieces that mix and match well.

Thanks Lori Bergamotto for the useful and timely information.

Happy packing!  Happy Summer!

My Style Shout Out Tip:  Take some of Lori's tips to simplify your packing and you'll never have to worry about lost luggage.   And don't forget to throw in a scarf or two as they can transform an outfit.
